Plain version
Socketing means putting a module into a slot. Think of a tool belt: you can carry strong tools, but not every tool at once.
This is spoiler-free. I am using this post to explain the series idea, not to walk through the plot.
A build is a set of limits
Wavefall uses skills, modules, and slots. Plain version: a skill can be changed by fitting a module into it, but there are only so many places to put those modules.
That keeps the choices visible. Cal cannot carry every answer at once. If he sets up for speed, control, reach, or survival, another option may have to wait.
Modules are physical
A module is not just a glowing menu line. It is a thing you can have, lose, carry, trade, protect, or risk.
One module fits one slot. Rare modules do not only make a number bigger. The interesting ones change how a skill behaves, which changes how a fight or escape has to be read.
Swaps need safety
Module swaps happen in safe places, not in the middle of a bad hallway. They are limited, and they do not become a pause button for danger.
That rule keeps the system physical. The build matters before the door opens. Once things go wrong, footwork, nerve, friends, and the choices already made have to carry the scene.
